Braces: Oral Hygiene Tips

Posted .

If you have braces in Havre de Grace, Maryland and Bel Air, it’s extremely important to keep up on oral hygiene and clean your smile on a regular basis. If you don’t, your smile can suffer from tooth decay, gum disease, and it can also become discolored. So, it’s best to do the following things on a regular basis:

Brush: Brush your teeth after each meal and snack so you can remove the food particles that get stuck in your brackets and wires. This will also help you have a clean and foodless smile. Make sure you brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.

Floss: Floss your smile at least once a day. Flossing might be a bit difficult, but it’s easier than you think it is. All you need to do is thread the floss through the space between the wire and the front surface of the tooth and then gently push the floss between the teeth. Scrape the sides of each tooth and then move onto the next space.

Rinse: Rinse your mouth daily with fluoride or antibacterial mouthwash. This will help you complete the cleaning job, nourish your teeth, and improve your breath.
